I have been trying to figure something out for a while now. As someone who works in Digital Marketing, the act of tackling the question of, “What do you do for a living?” is a difficult one to answer sometimes.

From the inside, there are a lot of different things that I do. I manage social media accounts, I create marketing strategies, I send marketing emails, I measure results, I oversee elements of our SEO, I write content, blah, blah, blah. Typically, once I start rattling off the various elements of my job people’s eyes glaze over and they look like a deer in headlights. But once they start to understand, you can see the excitement well up and there is almost a sense of cool jealousy that forms.

I’m not one who sets out to make people jealous of what I do, but I my hope is to convey in an accurate way in order to show other how cool my job really is, and I found a great illustration:

The Modern Marketer

As modern day marketers, we are the Internet voice of our company. We play a part in representing every element of what we have worked our butts off to build. We are responsible for a lot of things, and yet it is a privilege to create a message that will be received by many people. We work to build the image of the companies we represent in order to show our audience that they are better off when they work with us. This takes both creativity, insight, and the science to measure, test, record, and refine every element of our work. But it is exciting!
